2025 Stick It to Brain Tumors Tournament Rules
Games
- Three periods will be stopped time.
- Periods are twelve (12) minutes.
- Final period may go to running time to complete game in allotted time slot.
- There will be a three (3) minute warm-up from scheduled start time.
- Ice is resurfaced before each game. Do not go on the ice before the Zamboni door is closed.
- One time out per team in the championship games only.
Penalties
- Minor penalties are 2:00 minutes, majors are 5:00 minutes and game misconducts are 10:00 minutes.
- Any player with three penalties in one game will be removed from the game.
- Any player that accumulates six penalties will not be allowed to play any additional games.
- There is Zero tolerance for fighting and player(s) will be ejected from the tournament.
Mercy Rule
- If a team is behind by six (6) goals in the third period, the game will go to running time.
- If the score goes back to a difference of less than six (6) goals, stopped time is reinstated.
Recreational and Recreational Plus Divisions Rules
- One goal allowed per person per game.
- If a player scores their second goal in the recreational divisions, the face off will be inside the zone, and the goal does not count.
- No slap shots.
Rosters
- This is a USAH approved hockey tournament. All players and teams must be USAH registered. All players must have full equipment as required by USA Hockey guidelines.
- All players & coaches must sign the Roster and Code of Conduct Form, to be submitted by March 1.
- Players cannot be added to the rosters after March 1 unless approved by the Rules Committee.
- Rosters are limited to 20 players. Exemption to the limit needs to be approved by the Rules Committee.
- Players may only play on one team in the tournament and may not play for multiple teams in multiple divisions. Exceptions may be made for goaltenders with approval of the Rules Committee.
- Teams need to comply with the 2025 Stick It to Brain Tumors Division Clarification Rules (see page 2).
- If the Rules Committee determine that an illegal player has participated in the tournament:
- The player(s) shall be immediately removed from the tournament.
- Any disputes will be handled by the Rules Committee.
Tournament Point System
Win = 2 points (1 point for tie)
Period = 1 point per period (1/2 point for tie)
Points Available = 5 per game
Championship Game
- Tie breakers to determine the teams for the Championship Game:
- Head to Head Play
- Least Goals Allowed
- Most Shutout Periods
- Most Shutout Games
- Team with Least Penalty Minutes
- Flip of a Coin
- Each team is allowed one (1) 30 second time out per game.
- If the Championship Game is tied after Regulation Time:
- Five (5) minute overtime, sudden death.
- If still a tie, there will be a three (3) player shoot out from each team.
- If still tied, there will be a sudden death shoot out (no repeat shooters, until everyone on the team has shot once).
- Continue rotation until someone wins!
Uniforms
- The team listed first on the schedule is the home team and will wear DARK
- The team listed second on the schedule is the visiting team and will wear LIGHT/WHITE
Locker Rooms
- The locker room assignments will be posted in the lobby of the rink.
Rec, Rec+ and D Division Clarifications
Revised 1/1/25
In order to make games fun for everyone, we are coming up with guidelines for the various divisions in the Stick It to Brain Tumors Tournament. All teams will be required to comply with these guidelines.
General Notes:
- Code of Conduct Form must be submitted by March 1.
- The Code of Conduct Committee will be able to ban a player that is found to have been less than honest with their skills level placement before or at the start of the tournament.
- All players must be 21 years old by the start date of the tournament to participate in any USA Hockey Adult Sanctioned Tournament.
General Exemptions:
- Consideration will be given to these requirements if the player has sustained an injury or health issue that has affected their level of play.
- Anyone over 60 is exempt from any of these conditions.
Recreational (Rec) Division (See General Exemptions Above):
- Team is comprised mostly of beginner adult players. Although a small number of players may have 5+ years of beginner adult experience, the majority of players should be between 1-5 years of entry level playing experience as an adult.
- D level players will be limited to 3 and must be over 35 years old.
- C level players and higher will not be allowed to participate in the Rec Division.
Recreational+ (Rec+) Division (See General Exemptions Above):
- Players that have played at a C level or higher will not be allowed to participate in the Rec+ Division.
- Exemption: C level players over 45 years old will be allowed.
- Exemption: D level players over 40 years old.
D Division:
- Players that have played at a B level or College Club will not be allowed to participate in the D Division.
Exemption: B or College Club players over 50.
- Players that have played Division 1 or 3 College Hockey will not be allowed to participate in the D Division.
- Professional hockey players will not be allowed to play in the D Division.
